It’s Here: VW’s ID. Buzz Midwestern Debut at 2024 Chicago Auto Show

Volkswagen’s long-wheelbase ID.Buzz will make its mid-western consumer debut at the 2024 Chicago Auto Show.  Here are some quick pics of the Buzz at the show’s media-invite Concept Garage.   Notice the trick side window within a window, sunroof panel that changes from clear to opaque, folding trailer hitch and removable center console.  VW’s Bryan Reel says expect retail deliveries later this year.  VW will not permit pre-orders.  Pricing and EPA-estimated battery range aren’t available yet.

More . . .

VW’s Pablo Di Si spoke about VW’s North American Investments and its electric vehicles at the 2024 Chicago Auto Show’s media preview during the Economic Club of Chicago luncheon.  Di Si says VW’s American-made ID.4 is unique among foreign car makers because this battery-electric vehicle qualifies for a $7,500 federal tax credit.  Qualified consumers can use that credit as, say, the down payment at their VW dealer.
VW’s booth at the CAS features its 75-th anniversary theme dubbed:  An American Love Story.  The new ID.Buzz full-electric vehicle has vintage company: a 1967 Microbus and a 1949 VW Beetle.  A video wall behind the Buzz sets the mood with images of an air-cooled split-rear window Bug and a water-cooled Cabriolet.

Get granular.  You’ll notice the Buzz has built-in whimsy.  Its picnic basket-like portable center console has a window scraper and a bottle cap opener.  Each is a card-like bin divider.
