Jan. 3, 2025: Reston, VA—VW announced it has door handle parts that will fix the ID.4’s problematic door latches. Last Sept., VW issued a stop-sale order because previous recalls of the EV’s door handles didn’t cure a flaw: water seeped into the door-latch electronics causing doors to open while the vehicle was in motion.
VW will notify ID.4 owners when their vehicles can be repaired. Dealers can sell ID.4s after new parts are installed. VW says American production of VW’s EV should resume in a few weeks. Expect highly competitive ID.4 lease offers at your VW store.
VWoA reports its U.S. sales increased 15.2% during 2024–a total of 379,178 units. The industry average was a sales gain of 2%. Analysts say affordability was the key. VW’s relatively low-cost Jetta posted a 51.5% sales uptick. The Tiguan’s deliveries, likewise, grew 23.8%. VW’s most popular nameplate was the Atlas at 114,387 units.
