VW Cuts U.S. ID. 4 Production, Announces Hybrid T-Roc

Volkswagen of America announced on Sept. 2 that it reduced production of its Chattanooga-built ID. 4 compact electric crossover.  VW cites waning demand.  VW cut ID. 4 production earlier this year.

Due to the slowdown, 160 employees will be furloughed. VW said it will supplement Tennessee’s unemployment compensation.  The affected workers, therefore, will receive 80 percent of base compensation and continue to receive full benefits.

2026 T-Roc Full-Hybrid

In Europe, VW presented its second-gen T-Roc compact crossover.  It’s one of the brand’s most popular European models with more than two million served since its 2017 launch.

The Mk2 T-Roc will feature two full-hybrid drivetrains in addition to mild hybrid options.  VW says the full-hybrid T-Roc won’t be offered until summer 2026.

This matters to American VW fans because currently the brand doesn’t have a full-hybrid model.  VWoA, moreover, says it will offer at least two future U.S. model hybrids. Thus, it’s possible the new T-Roc’s hybrid technology will make its way across the pond.
