2022 VW Jetta Refreshed: More Power, Better Value; 2022 Taos AWD Stop Sale

VW’s 2022 Jetta gets more than a facelift, fresh colors and spiffy alloy wheels.  There’s a new base engine—the 1.5-liter EA211 TSI from the Taos CUV.  Horsepower increases 11 to 157.  The 1.5-liter sports several efficiency tricks such as a high 11.5-to-one compression ratio, variable induction stroke, low-friction cylinder liners and higher 350 bar fuel injection system.  Pick from either an eight-speed automatic or a six-speed manual transmission.

Meanwhile, the GLI returns in loaded Autobahn trim with a 228-hp EA888 engine.  Variable suspension damping is standard.  GLIs come with either a seven-speed DSG or six-speed manual transmission.

The 1.5-liter Jetta is available in one of four trims.  The entry-level S has standard Front Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Traffic Assist.  VW’s I.Q Drive with radar cruise control with start/stop is optional.

Sport trim replaces the former R-Line.  It has 17-inch alloy wheels, cloth sport seats and XDS differential lock.

All Jettas feature VW’s Digital Cockpit instrument panel.  Rhombus cloth seats are standard as is contrasting stitching throughout the cockpit.  Heated or chilled seats and steering wheel heater are available.  The GLI receives VW’s touch-type steering wheel switchgear.

Taos Stop Sale

VW told its dealers to stop selling the all-wheel-drive 4Motion Taos.  VW reports several situations where this vehicle’s engine stopped, posing a safety hazard. VW is investigating the problem.
