Oct. 28, 2019: VWoA announced the 2019 Tiguan gets the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s top safety rating. Besides good scores in six crashworthiness evaluations, the Tiguan with optional LED headlights earned a good rating.
VW’s available forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking and pedestrian monitoring (Front Assist) earned a superior rating.
In order to achieve the IIHS Top Safety Pick+, a vehicle must perform well in crash tests, offer effective non-dazzle automatic high beams and provide useful autonomous emergency braking. VW’s Tiguan with Front Assist scored superior for the latter.
VW’s 2019 GTI also earned a Top Safety Pick earlier this year.
