VW’s U.S. sales dropped 3.2% vs. the same period last year (28,072). Its car deliveries fell 21% while its SUV sales increased 21%. Tiguan (8,322; +17%), Jetta (8,582; -15%) and Atlas (6,647; +41%) were its notable models. The GTI (723), Golf (338) and Passat (211) reveal what’s happening to VW’s car portfolio.
Audi’s deliveries, in contrast, increased 19% (19,172). This big jump reflects an inventory shortage last year due to Euro emissions testing, which delayed U.S. model certification. Thus, A6 deliveries surged 2,564% (1,252) and the Q3 zoomed 121% (1,943). The Q5 (5,960; -5%), Q7 (2,971; -6%) and A4 (2,178; -4%) were its top sellers.
