2026 VW ID. Buzz Stopped

Volkswagen of America told its dealers on Dec. 18 that after careful assessment of the current EV market conditions, it’s not moving forward with 2026 model-year Buzz production for the U.S. Base price for VW’s halo product is $61,545.

VW will focus on selling current inventory as “we prepare for MY2027 transition next year.”  VW, moreover, introduced incentives to accelerate sell-down of current 2025 model-year supplies—estimated at 1,434 units.

The EV minivan’s retail sales have been as slow as the original Microbus’ acceleration.  VWoA sold 1,901 of its full battery electric vans during the first quarter of 2025.  Then, stop-sale orders (recalls) cut second-quarter sales to 564.

Dealers say the model’s range is an issue.  Furthermore, it’s assembled in Hanover, Germany.  Therefore, it’s subject to import tariffs.  The federal $7,500 BEV tax credit, moreover, expired last fall.  There are no plans to move ID. Buzz production to North America.
