VW and Audi Report March 2019 Sales Increases VW’s Golf Milestone VW Announces Arteon Pricing SEC Sues VW and Its Former CEO

VW says it delivered 37,092 new vehicles during March 2019.  That’s an increase of 14% versus the same month last year.  Its Tiguan took the top spot (11,805; +43%) followed by the Jetta (9,105; +65%) and Atlas (7,381; +22%) and Passat (2,762; -36%).

VW says its first-quarter sales (85,872; +2.3%) were the best since 2014.   

Audi sold 20,302 units last month (1.1% increase).  Its best seller:  the Q5 (6,529; +19%) followed by the Q7 (3,091; +1% and A4 (2,652; -20%).  Its new A6 found 1,963 takers—up 69%.

GOLF’S 45TH ANNIVERSARY:  35 MILLION GOLFS PRODUCED

VW commenced building the Golf (Rabbit in the USA) on March 29, 1974.    Since then, VW built 35 million Golfs.  That’s means every 41 seconds someone orders a Golf, says VW.  American deliveries began in December 1974. 

SLEEK ARTEON’S PRICES AND TRIMS ANNOUNCED

VW’s 268-hp flagship fastback, hatchback Arteon’s base price is $36,840 (includes destination charge).  This includes forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, side assist and rear traffic alert.  All-wheel drive is optional.  Lavishly equipped versions list for $45,940.  

VW AND FORMER CEO MARTIN WINTERKORN SUED BY THE SEC

The Security and Exchange Commission says VW issued $13 billion in bonds and other assets in U.S. markets, when it also knew its diesel vehicles exceeded emissions limits.  The SEC says this misled U.S. investors.
